What is your position at Studio Collective?

I serve as the Secretary for Studio Collective and have since we started!

What is your year?

Senior

What is your major?

Fashion Merchandising and Design

Why do you heart Studio Collective?

I love Studio Collective because it brings students from all different majors and backgrounds together who have a common passion for excellent design. I love that we are all working together to create a beautiful publication that will hopefully inspire others, because it continues to inspire me.

What does design mean to you?

To me, design is the creation of something of value. It may not be valued by everyone, but if it has value to someone, it has been created for a purpose.

Who is your inspiration when it comes to creativity and design?

When it comes to creativity and design my inspiration stems from my peers. I have always received strong encouragement from my peers and it has helped make me a more confident designer. My peers always seem to have a different viewpoint than myself, and inspire me to try new things and branch out to new and interesting ideas. I have become more of a risk-taker when it comes to design with the support and small pushes from my peers.

If you could transform into any animal at will, what would it be and why?

I would most definitely transform into a panda. As someone who basically only wears black and white, and loves cuddly animals, I would be the ideal panda.

If you could be any character in a fictional world, who would it be and why?

I think I would want to be Nancy Drew. She doesn’t follow the rules, and does whatever it takes to solve a mystery. She is curious and intelligent and sleuths so well. Not to mention she has great boating skills, is an awesome tennis player and is a tremendous chef. I’ll just have to eliminate some of the color in her wardrobe and dye her hair dark brown and I’ll be set.

What do you aspire to accomplish after college, and how do you think Studio Collective helped you prepare for it?

After graduation this May I will be working for The Walt Disney Company on the Merchandise Development Team. I aspire to become the Executive Merchant for Softlines for all of Walt Disney Parks and Resort Merchandise. Although this may take a while, I hope to climb the corporate Disney ladder! Studio Collective has taught me exactly what my strongest qualities as a leader are, which I am very thankful for. Effective communication is key when producing a publication and Studio Collective has prepared me to communicate even better for the next phase of my life. Studio Collective has shown me how to flexible and how to adapt, and that some things that you try may not always work. Being a part of Studio Collective since the beginning has been such a gift, and one of my favorite parts of my time here at Virginia Tech.
